Huge rock breaks off side of Swiss mountain
The side of the mountain fell 1,000 feet down into the valley
Video has emerged of the moment a huge rock fell away from the side of a Swiss mountain.
2,000 cubic metres of rock broke from the 9049ft mountain Mel de la Niva, near Evolène in Switzerland.
Le Nouvelliste reported that the hanging rock had loomed over the side of the mountain since August 2013 after a partial landslide.
It has been under surveillance ever since and due to recent movement the nearby hamlet of Arbey was evacuated as a precaution on Sunday.
The rockfall caused large damage to the forest below as debris plummeted through the trees.
