Moment police shoot lorry driver filmed by witness

New footage has captured the moment French police shot the man responsible for the lorry attack in Nice on Bastille Day.

The video shows two armed police officers closing in on the front of the lorry after it ended its rampage that killed dozens of people and injured hundreds.

One police officer walks towards the lorry and fires shots into the driver's window, before a second officer emerges from behind a tree directly in front of the vehicle.

Both officers then begin to close in on the driver's window and shoot at the attacker.

After several dozen shots are fired the shooting stops and one of the policemen shines a torch into the driver's window.

More armed officers proceed to close in on the lorry from all sides, but no further shots are fired.

It is unclear whether the driver also uses a gun in the stand-off and at what point he is killed.

The video also shows a moment of panic as a police officer screams orders to "get down" and "hide".

At least 84 people, including around a dozen children, are confirmed to have died as a result of the attack in the coastal city.

Some 50 victims are said to be “between life and death”, according to French President Francois Hollande.

Mr Hollande has called the terrorist attack an “absolute horror” and has extended the country’s state of emergency by a further three months.
