Three sisters gave birth to their babies in the same hospital on the same day.

And the coincidence was even more striking as a fourth sister is also expecting and due to give birth, being days overdue.

The trio of babies were born on Tuesday at Mayo General Hospital, in Castlebar, County Mayo, Ireland.

The siblings, all from County Roscommon, said they all had different due dates and did not plan on the births coinciding, according to RTE News.

The news channel reported that Mairead FitzPatrick gave birth first – to a boy named Thomas Og, at 3.25am.

Joeline Godfrey then gave birth to a girl named Sorcha at 11am, followed by Bernie Ward who gave birth to a boy called Phelim at 8.30pm.

Their sister Christina Murray was also a maternity patient at the same hospital.

Mary Salmon, manager of the maternity hospital at Mayo General, told RTE: “We have four sisters in and it’s never happened, as far as we know, going back some time.

“We’re just delighted everything has gone well. It’s a great news story.”

Ms Fitzpatrick told the channel: “There’s four girls, five of us altogether in the house, and one brother.

“It was just so funny the way it happened,” the Irish Independent reports.
