In a move that could pave the way for peace in Afghanistan, Ahmed Shah Massoud has stepped down as Defence Minister, AP reports from Kabul. The Prime minister-designate, Gulbuddin Hekmatyar, head of a rival mujahedin faction, had refused to enter Kabul while Mr Massoud headed the ministry.
