County round-up: Australian understudies take centre stage in Scotland
Sunday 09 June 2013
Their senior side may be struggling but Australia A had no such problems against Scotland as they wrapped up victory by a mammoth 360 runs at the Grange on Sunday.
Chadd Sayers and James Pattinson shared seven wickets between them as the hosts were dismissed for just 93 in an impressive display of swing bowling.
Elsewhere, the day belonged to Yorkshire bowler Matthew Fisher, who at the age of 15 years and 212 days became county cricket's youngest post-war player when he was named in the side to play Leicestershire in the Yorkshire Bank 40 game at Scarborough.
After edging the second and third balls he faced to the third-man boundary and then being run out for 10 off the last ball of the innings, Fisher claimed his first senior wicket when he had Shiv Thakor leg before without scoring. He finished with figures of 1 for 40 from seven overs but his side still lost, Leicestershire chasing down a target of 259 with 11 balls to spare.
Lancashire enjoyed a comfortable five-wicket win over Surrey at Guildford, with Ashwell Prince's 76 setting them on their way. Meanwhile an unbeaten stand of 102 between Shivnarine Chanderpaul (85) and Alex Hughes (59) set up Derbyshire for a convincing 63-run victory over Essex at Leek.
