Round-Up: Anderson given go-ahead to return for Lancashire

James Anderson is expected to make his long-awaited comeback from injury for Lancashire tomorrow in the Twenty20 benefit match against England.

The 24-year-old seamer has been out all season with a stress fracture of the back sustained while playing for England during the one-day series in India in March. Anderson will take his place alongside Sajid Mahmood and Nathan Astle.

In the First Division of the County Championship yesterday Warwickshire were undermined by the Durham bowler Callum Thorp at Chester-le-Street. Thorp dismissed both openers and finished with figures of 4 for 57 as the visitors were dismissed for 314. Timothy Groenewald (76) and Moeen Ali (68) were the only batsmen to impress.

The hosts had reduced the deficit by stumps on day one to 261 runs, as they stumbled to 53 for 3.

The Australasian duo of Stephen Fleming and David Hussey both reached three figures against Kent at Trent Bridge as outgoing champions, Nottinghamshire, continued their battle against relegation. The hosts were in trouble at 61 for3 before Fleming, the New Zealand captain, struck 101 while the Australian batsman Hussey was unbeaten on 156 at the close as Nottinghamshire finished the day on 381 for 5.

In the Second Division, Hilton Ackerman struck a century as Leicestershire took control against struggling Northamptonshire on day one at the County Ground. Monty Panesar took the wickets of John Sadler and Darren Maddy but Ackerman's unbeaten 188, supported by Paul Nixon's 70 not out, helped Leicestershire to 383 for 4.
