Chris Hughton has today been sacked as Newcastle manager with the club saying they need someone with "more managerial expertise" to take them forward.

The move will come of as something of a shock considering Hughton's part in leading Newcastle back to the Premier League last season and a solid start to the current campaign. In the last month Newcastle beat Arsenal 1-0 at the Emirates and hammered their bitter rivals Sunderland 5-1.

Yet, in the short reign of Mike Ashley there have been many twists and turns, and perhaps today's events shouldn't come as too much of a surprise. Here, we take a look at Ashley's rollercoaster reign.
