A contender for the 2016 Puskas Award was scored in the Malaysian Super League today.

Faiz Subri is the man who will be in contention for the gong that recognises the best goal of the year thanks to his truly incredible free-kick.

Not only did the 28-year-old's shot completely baffle the opposition goalkeeper, it appeared to defy physics as well.

Subri struck the ball with such ferocity that after the ball initially went in one direction, it swerved the other and whipped into the top corner of the net.

Watch the goal below...

The goal was scored in Malaysia's top-flight during the meeting between Pulau Pinang and Pahang at the City Stadium. The goal from Subri helped his Pulau Pinang side to a 4-1 win.

Such swerve has arguably not been seen since Roberto Carlos's famous strike for Brazil against France in the Tournoi de France in 1997.

The Puskas Award is awarded by Fifa at the same time as the Fifa Ballon d'Or, meaning Subri will have to wait until next January to find out if he's won.
