Emerson: Madrid move would tempt Kaka

AC Milan midfielder Emerson believes Real Madrid would succeed where Manchester City failed this week if they tried to lure his team-mate Kaka away from the San Siro.

City were prepared to smash the world transfer record to take Kaka to England but were rebuffed as the Brazilian opted to stay at Milan.

However, Emerson feels the pulling power of his former club Madrid, who have long been linked with a move for Kaka, means they would stand a much better chance of landing his compatriot if they were to launch a bid.

"I've said all along that Madrid have wanted Kaka for the last two years. To be a real top player you have to play for Madrid. If Kaka has the chance to go to Madrid, he shouldn't think twice about it," said Emerson, who spent a season at Madrid before joining Milan in 2007.

"It depends on the will of the player. It wouldn't be bad for him to stay here, but Madrid are the best. All the players feel good if they play for a team like Madrid.

"Milan are the second biggest team in the world behind Madrid.

"When Madrid come knocking, you cannot say no to them. It isn't easy because they are a great team. If Madrid arrive with 100 million (euros) or a good offer it is difficult to see him staying here."

Emerson added in AS: "He couldn't go to Manchester City as they are not playing in the Champions League and are not a big club. Kaka, if he goes, will go to a big club because he is a phenomenal player.

"Kaka is very intelligent. He is very young, he does not only have to think about money. Madrid's interest is not official, but he is thinking of a future at Madrid."
