Good as gold: Jonnie Peacock flies to world title
Wednesday 24 July 2013
Jonnie Peacock added a world title to his Paralympic gold last night when he beat his big rival Richard Browne Jnr in the T44 100m at the IPC world championships in Lyon.
Browne had beaten Peacock’s world-record time in the heats but in the final the Briton finished 0.02sec ahead in a time of 10.99 – despite stumbling at the start. “I shouldn’t have won like that,” said Peacock, 20. “I’m the luckiest guy in the world.”
There were also golds for Britain’s Aled Davies, who added the F42 discus win to his early victory in the shot put, while Richard Whitehead took the T42 200m title.
