Adamson's return bolsters front row of depleted Leeds

Leeds welcome back Matt Adamson to give them some much-needed experience in the front row against Wigan this evening.

With Darren Fleary out with a long-term injury and Barrie McDermott suspended, the Rhinos lack their old solidity up front. Adamson, signed as a second-rower, but increasingly used at prop, provides a partial answer on his return after a knee injury.

Also back in the squad is Rob Burrow, whose ankle injury has not turned out to be as bad as first feared. But, although their coach, Daryl Powell, has been pleased with way his young players have stood up, it will take a big improvement to take anything from a Wigan side with Andy Farrell back in action for the first time since Great Britain's Test in Sydney.

The Warriors captain has finally overcome the groin injury which has hampered his season and returns along with fellow-injury victims David Furner, Craig Smith and Sean O'Loughlin.

Graham Mackay, Super League's joint leading try-scorer this season, has been told that he is not being retained next season by Hull.

The 33-year-old, who has also played for Leeds and Bradford, has been edged out by the signings of Colin Best and Richie Barnett for next season.

Hull's coach, Shaun McRae, said that Mackay, who has scored 17 tries so far this season, was being released because of his age and pressure for places on the import quota.

For tomorrow's match at home to Widnes, Hull will have Jason Smith and Chris Chester fit again, but Matt Crowther and Garreth Carvell are injured and Richard Fletcher and Craig Greenhill suspended. Widnes are unlikely to make many changes to the side that lost to London.

The Broncos, hoping to consolidate the sixth spot they took from Widnes, cannot use Darren Shaw in their game against Salford, from whom he is on loan. Warrington have Lee Briers and Dale Laughton back against Castleford as they try to blot out the embarrassment of last week's 72-2 defeat by St Helens. Cas welcome back Andy Johnson and Ryan Hudson, but Mitch Healey begins a two-match suspension.

The Northern Ford Premiership promotion contenders, Leigh, have made their second major signing in a week. Dale Cardoza, who has Super League experience with Sheffield, Huddersfield and Warrington, will make his debut against Chorley tomorrow, in Bobbie Goulding's second match for the club.

The Sheffield coach, Mark Aston, has named himself in the squad for the first time this season, and could face his opposing coach, St John Ellis, who has been turning out for Doncaster.
