THEO FOLEY, the former Arsenal coach and Northampton manager, has joined Southend as assistant to the manager, Peter Taylor. He takes over from Phil Holder who has left the First Division club by mutual consent.

TRANSFERS: Ray Kelly (striker) Athlone to Manchester City ( pounds 30,000); Martyn Chalk (striker) Derby County to Stockport County (fee to be agreed).
