Serena Williams got her revenge on Garbine Muguruza, who took the world No 1 out of the French Open last year, and brushed passed her in the Australian Open fourth round.

Williams now has the prospect of facing her sister Venus in the semi-finals, but first she would have to beat Dominika Cibulkova, the current world No 10.

Williams is the clear favourite against a player who she faced four times in the past and has never lost to. However, Cibulkova has some outstanding performances to her name in Melbourne.

She began her campaign by beating her doubles partner - Kirsten Flipkens and then went on to defeat Tsvetana Pironkova, Alize Cornet and a two-time Australian Open champion - Victoria Azarenka.

We can’t forget either that she is last year’s runner up. When seeded 20th her run ended that of players like Maria Sharapova, Simona Halep and Agnieszka Radwanska.

The winner will face either Madison Keys or Venus Williams.

START: Wednesday, Rod Laver Arena, not before 1.30 am GMT
