Wimbledon 2013: No heroics this year from giant-killer Lukas Rosol

The lights of Centre Court seemed a long way away for last year's Wimbledon giant-killer Lukas Rosol as he made a first-round exit today.

The big-serving Czech made a name for himself by beating Rafael Nadal in a five-set second-round thriller a year ago, wowing the main arena's fans with an all-action display.

There would be no such fireworks out on Court 19 today, though, as the 27-year-old was sent packing by world 139 Julian Reister after a five-set marathon which ended 6-3 4-6 7-6 (7/5) 6-7 (7/4) 6-4.

German Reister was not flustered by the majority of the spectators rooting for last year's hero - a number of Czech flags were draped around the perimeter of the court - and quietly went about picking Rosol's game apart.

There were glimpses of the form which Rosol showed to oust Nadal under the Centre Court roof a year ago - he cracked in 95 winners and served 20 aces - but as can be common with a player with such a bombastic approach, 74 errors were also recorded against his name.

With Reister the more consistent of the two he always looked to have more control over what was happening, but looked as thought he would rue failing to take match points in the fourth set.

He managed to survive another Rosol revival though, and made the crucial breakthrough in the decider to take the match in three hours and 30 minutes.
