Mitsubishi names its price for electric i-MiEV

Mitsubishi has named the price at which it will sell its forthcoming i-MiEV electric car when it goes on general sale early next year. Customers will pay a steep £33,699 including VAT, even after the £5,000 per car grant that the government is introducing in order to encourage the sale of hybrid and electric plug-in cars.

Mini and Mitsubishi start UK electric car trials

Mitsubishi and BMW's Mini launched their UK electric vehicle trials at the weekend; both initiatives are part-funded by the British Government's Technology Strategy Board which will support tests involving 340 alternative fuel vehicles from several manufacturers.

Volkswagen and Suzuki link up

German car-maker Volkswagen is entering into a long-term strategic partnership with Suzuki of Japan. The relationship will be cemented via the establishment of a cross-shareholding between the two companies; VW will buy 19.9 per cent of Suzuki, which will in turn invest up to half of the proceeds in Volkswagen shares.

Some car manufacturers don’t make life easy for themselves. A few years ago, for example, Mitsubishi brought out a saloon which wasn’t exactly the Madonna of the showrooms. Inexplicably, they decided to call their mid range entrant the "Carisma". Predictably, the Carisma became the subject of easy ridicule, whatever its virtues.
