Jeremy Corbyn has left his chants to euphoric chanting from his fans.

Leaving to go to the election count in Islington, the Labour leader was greeted by chants of "oh, Jeremy Corbyn". The chant, set to the tune of Seven Nation Army, has become a favourite of his supporters during the election campaign.

His Labour party has vastly outperformed expectations at the general election, with exit polls suggesting a hung parliament and the Conservatives failing to get a working majority.

Mr Corbyn refused to be drawn on the outcome of the election as he arrived for the declaration in Islington North.

The Labour leader was mobbed by the media on his way into the Sobell Leisure Centre where he was eventually greeted by Islington South and Finsbury candidate, and shadow foreign secretary, Emily Thornberry.

The exit poll, which looks to have been roughly accurate so far, put the Tories on 314 seats, with Labour on 266, the Scottish National Party on 34, Liberal Democrats on 14, Plaid Cymru on three and Greens on one, after questioning 30,000 voters at 144 polling stations across the country.

With around 50 of the 650 seats in the Commons declared, Labour was enjoying a swing of about 0.8% from Conservatives.

But the most notable feature of results across the country was the collapse in Ukip support following its best ever showing in 2015, with former supporters going to both Labour and the Tories.
