5 Ways To Wear: Men's wide trousers

FASHION: Finishing Touches

The latest silhouette for men is based on wide legs, and works well both formally (check out suits from Dolce & Gabbana, Jigsaw or Ann Demeulemeester), or informally, teamed with a relaxed, simple V-neck. If you don't want to look like an uptight fashion plate, ,go for loose layering up top, with an untucked shirt over a T-shirt. Or try kung-fu trousers worn with karate slippers. The best shoes for this look, though, are the season's other essential - flip-flops

Clockwise from top left: black jacket, pounds 520, and trousers, pounds 260, both by Ann Demeulemeester, from Harvey Nichols, Knightsbridge, SW1 (enq: 0171 730 1234); sandals, pounds 52.95, by Birkenstock, 37 Neal St, WC2 (enq: 0800 132194).
