Burke + Norfolk: Photographs from the War in Afghanistan, By John Burke and Simon Norfolk
John Burke's photographs of the Second Afghan War of 1878-1880 were among the first ever taken in Afghanistan.
More than a century later, award-winning photographer Simon Norfolk has revisited Burke's subject matter. The result is a collaboration that collapses the years between the two photographers, bringing together Burke's ethnographic portraits and battlefield plates and Norfolk's work in Kabul and Helmand, to spin a delicate narrative of conflict and humanity.
