Chart supplied by Screen International

The US chart bristles with new films - Kathryn Bigelow's violent, futuristic Strange Days (which opens the London Film Festival on 2 Nov); Jade, a thriller directed by William Friedkin and starring The Last Seduction's Linda Fiorentino (on the minus side, Joe Eszterhas wrote it). And the Demi Moore costume drama The Scarlet Letter which was branded "so solemn it's silly" by Variety. But that's the point, isn't it?
