Another great family day out from the Coin Street Festival. As well as three stages with everything from Ghanaian high-life to Zimbabwean acapella, there's a programme of children's events, including story-telling, ceramics, beading demonstrations and tie-dying workshops.

Urban Games

The place to be for older kids this weekend is the first-ever gathering for everything from breakdancing to basketball and BMX. The weekend will include workshops and demos.

Kew Celebration Weekend

Head to Kew's magnificent 300-acre gardens, where they are celebrating the centenary of the completion of the massive glass Temperate House with a birthday picnic on the lawn. There will also be children's entertainment today and tomorrow, plus a fossil trail and special lectures.

Family Fly-a-kite Day, Hot Air Balloon Rally

Blickling Hall, Norwich (01263 738030) today and tomorrow, park entry free; gardens and hall: adults pounds 6.20, children pounds 3.10

Tomorrow, families are invited to bring a picnic and their kites along between 10am and 4pm, when there will be kite-flying demos and workshops (for which there will be a small fee). And tonight at 6pm (and tomorrow at 6am and 6pm, weather permitting) balloons will be taking off from the park, plus, at 9pm, there will be a "Lakeside Balloon Glow", when a host of balloons all fire up on the ground.

Elizabethan Revelry

Colourful characters will be mingling with visitors at this medieval house over the weekend. There will also be a troupe of strolling players in the gardens and a special "Great Tudor Hunt" family quiz for older children (9-plus) and their parents.

Cardiff Children's Festival

As part of the Cardiff Festival (which runs until 8 August) the green at the castle will be packed with children's entertainers, with everything from sand sculpture and scrap art workshops to games with a giant rolling ball. NS
