Album: El Nuevo Mundo, Folias Criollas / Savall (Alia Vox)
Viol supremo Jordi Savall continues his exploration of musical colonialism with this sumptuous collection of Spanish, Creole and Mestizo canarios, cantadaos, fandangos, jácaras and morenas.
The line between early and world music is blurred, the roots of Latin American jazz exposed. Though some of the music is a little basic, the diversity of instrumentation and voices (from Montserrat Figueras and Furio Zanasi to Leopoldo Novoa) lends depth and colour and the rhythms are infectious.
