After the anarchy of Archaos and the clowning of Circus Oz come the breathtaking stunts of the Chinese State Circus. This latest troupe to grace the Meadows proves beyond doubt that animal-free acrobatics are the way forward for circuses. The Chinese specialise in building elegant human structures and in the display of simple but astonishing skills. For sheer entertainment, this knocks most fringe shows into a cocked ringmaster's hat.

Assembly Tent at the Meadows, Middle Meadow Walk (venue 116), 031- 229 9281. 7.15 pm to 6 Sept; 2.30pm to 6 Sept (not 3-4 Sept).
