Festival No.6 asks... Everything Everything

We spoke to Everything Everything's Jeremy Pritchard ahead of his band's appearance at Festival No. 6.

Describe your music in three words

Eventful, quixotic pop.

If you owned a festival, what would you call it and why?

We've actually been planning an imaginary festival called Guyfest for a lot of the time we've spent on the road this year. It's named after and run by our tour manger, Guy. All the punters will wear high-vis to confuse security, catering will be top-notch but no artists will be issued with a meal ticket. A petting zoo will also feature heavily, apparently. Headliners; Marillion.

Who from the Festival No. 6 line-up is your must see act?

I really love the latest James Blake record, 'Overgrown', and it's a gorgeous entity live. He is completely unique. I also love the Manic Street Preachers' truly great album, The Holy Bible, from 1994, and they'll always have a place in my heart.

George Harrison, Nye Bevan, David Bowie, my other half Katie Popperwell, Jason Dormon.

What’s your best festival moment?

Walking on stage to one of the best receptions and crowds we've ever had at Latitude in 2011, looking down and realising i had an open bottle of wine in each hand. It was Michael's parents' first time seeing us and it was pretty blissful. Latitude this year was much the same, actually.

What record changed your life?

I bought Blur's The Great Escape in 1996, it was the first contemporary music I listened to and that made we want to pick up a guitar, but Kid A by Radiohead probably single-handedly expanded my horizons more than any other record.

If you ruled the world what would your first rule be?

The weakest members of society need the assistance of the state, they are not to be abandoned, marginalised or exploited.

Who would be your ideal headlining act at a festival?

Er, The Beatles.

Who were your biggest influences?

The Beatles, Blur, Radiohead, Joeyfat, Slint, Kraftwerk, Unhome, The Smiths, Michael Jackson.

What inspires you?

It can come from anywhere or anyone or anything, but i have noticed that i tend to feel particularly galvanised by anyone who displays a steadfast dedication and self-sacrifice. That can be in the arts or in politics, in sport or anything.

What’s coming up for you in the next year?

We have a handful of festivals left, the last being No.6, of course. Then we're embarking on our biggest UK tour yet, throughout October. We'll be paying more attention than ever to the theatrical aspects of a live show, which will be a whole new level to playing live so we're excited about that.
