What a pleasant surprise to find that some politicians turn out to be nice guys after all.
Jonathan Demme's documentary follows ex-US President Jimmy Carter on a nation-wide tour promoting his book, Palestine: Peace Not Apartheid, and drawing down predictable flak from the Jewish lobby. The man himself is quite different from the peanut-crunching good ol' boy of caricature. Carter turns out to be a decent, humane, thoughtful fellow with a slyly humorous streak and indefatigable energy. A heartening example of a reputation deservedly rehabilitated.
