Observations: Film fans will have a whale of a time on Noah's tour

Folk-pop quartet Noah and The Whale are embarking on a 10-date UK tour with a difference. Kicking off on 5 March in Norwich, the Club Silencio Tour promises an evening of film and music that harks back to the music halls of old. The film fanatics say the tour is inspired by the Club Silencio scene in David Lynch's Mulholland Drive.

"I'm always making little films," explains frontman Charlie Fink. "When it snowed in London the other day we went and shot a Super8 horror film in Regent's Park." A cinema screen behind the stage will show clips of the band's favourite films from the Marx Brothers through to Pixar movies as well as footage shot by the band themselves. A compere, who goes by the name of Red Velvet, will introduce each clip and singer-songwriter Jay Jay Pistolet will provide support. To keep it authentic, there is even an intermission – although choc-ices for all are yet to be confirmed.

For their own set the band has prepared a film to accompany each of their songs, and will play in time with a prerecorded film of an orchestra. Budding film-makers are also encouraged to send in their shorts to the band's YouTube channel. Successful films will be shown before the band's set.

The band's new album, First Days of Spring, will be accompanied by a film made by the band which is designed to be played alongside it.

"The ideal would be to play the film in cinemas the day before the album is released and then offer both CD and DVD as some kind of box-set," says Fink..
