Inside Out, the new animated film by Up director Pete Docter (pictured), takes place inside the mind of an 11-year-old girl. Characters include emotions – Anger is voiced by Lewis Black, Disgust by Mindy Kaling, Bill Hader is Fear while Amy Poehler is Joy while Phyllis Smith will be Sadness. The movie will be released in 2015.

Cotillard takes on Lady Macbeth

Hollywood is eyeing the progress of the British-backed adaptation of Shakespeare's Macbeth. Justin Kurzel's project has seen one Oscar winner Natalie Portman replaced by another in Marion Cotillard to play Lady Macbeth in the Scottish play adaptation. Michael Fassbender will play Macbeth.

Cumberbatch exits horror show

Benedict Cumberbatch has made a shock exit from Crimson Peak, Guillermo del Toro's horror movie. No reason for his departure was given but a more attractive role luring him away has been discounted. Charlie Hunnam, Jessica Chastain and Mia Wasikowska remain onboard. It's due to shoot January 2014.

Bettany plans to woo lead actress

Paul Bettany's directorial debut Shelter, starring his wife Jennifer Connelly alongside Anthony Mackie, will shoot in Manhattan in the autumn. Bettany also wrote the script for the project but is keeping plot details close to his chest. He says he will keep alive the tradition, sacred to directors, of seducing his lead actress.

Fukunaga buys spy drama rights

DreamWorks Studios has acquired a book proposal – Noble Assassin by Paul Kix – as a directing vehicle for Cary Fukunaga. It's based on the true story of a French aristocrat turned anti-Nazi saboteur named Robert de la Rochefou cauld, described as being James Bond before Bond exsited. Harper Collins will publish in the US.

Joplin is the new focus for Daniels

Lee Daniels has told Hollywood his next project will be a long-planned Janis Joplin biopic. The director has been watching old videos of the American singer, with Amy Adams attached to star as the troubled performer. Lee Daniels' The Butler enjoyed a good opening weekend in the US, so he's on a roll.
