What about The Man Who Fell To Earth? The essence in Bowie's acting is PERSONALITY, he gives his roles something which no one else could do. Plus, having him in a film makes it more attractive to his millions of fans from around the world.

I insist the man has tons of personality!

to Bowie who was very good in The Man Who Fell to Earth and even Jagger, though admittedly only in Performance... Both of which are Nicolas Roeg films (Performance co-directed with Donald Cammell). I hate Sting but he was serviceable in Brimstone & Treacle.

Congratulations on at least providing a recent picture of Bob Dylan! He is utterly charming in 'Hearts of Fire', in his own peculiar way, and I have been known to watch him on my DVD copy frame by frame. He gives it his best shot and personally I prefer his performance to the other two lamentable characters played by Rupert Everett and 'Fiona'. The only scenes with any entertainment value are those involving Bob. He did say in an interview that the money was too good to refuse, despite his misgivings about the script! He's not daft...

'Masked and Anonymous' is fine, just relax and go with it. It's low-budget, not your reassuringly slick Hollywood stuff! There's a 'star-studded' cast and it's full of black humour and irony. The sound track, consisting of marvellous Dylan song covers in many different languages, is extraordinary and there are some great performances by Dylan and his band.

No mention here of 'Pat Garrett and Billy the Kid'?

Where or where did you get a DVD copy of Hearts Of Fire? I love the movie but I only have it on VHS which I can no longer watch.

David was born in Brixton actually but to us Sundridge Parkers, he was well known as were his family, he lived in a very small and humble house round the back of College Road adjacent to Sundridge Park station.

I thought his acting in the Man that fell to Earth was superb, extremely creepy and very acceptable as how an alien would behave, now his son is in the frame to make films I expect to see him more often.

Bowie almost gets away with it in The Prestige??? In fact i'd just he just about gets away with it.....Aslong as you don't scrutinise him too much its plausible. If you watch a film more than once flaws start to appear (if there are any), not least in Bowies acting!

Whilst I don't wildly disagree with the opinions of the selector, although I seem to remember Performance as a pretty good Jagger effort, I feel the choice seems to be made on the grounds of pesonal dislike of these rockstars. After all quite the worst rock (admittedly ,and roll) actor was Elvis Presley and he doesn't get a mention

Yeah have to agree on that one, having known John who is a bit more decent than a certain man who was poncing pints in a pub in Richmond one lunchtime... Daltrey that is.

Does anyone remember that 1970's film with Stacey Keach and Freddie Starr, a little gem that was too.

Sting gets a mention in Quadrophrenia but not Toyah?

But then take a look at Jubilee where the punk ladies bite off a policemans "love truncheon" and poor old Adam Ant gets suffocated for poor performance with one of the ladies, a weird weird film.

Eat The Rich - Lemmy of course, plus cameo's from various people across showbiz and the only man alive to have beaten Chuck Norris... Nosher Powell.

Ringo is good in A Hard Day's Night and Caveman; Bowie is awesome in Merry Christmas, Mr. Lawrence, and Sting is very good in Brimstone and Treacle.

I'll have to disagree with you that Ringo, Bowie, and Sting are bad actors!
