Trailer for 'Dummy' starring Anna Kendrick

Anna Kendrick has joked that she found a “new appreciation for people who own sex dolls” while filming the Quibi series Dummy.

On the show, the Pitch Perfect star plays a woman who befriends her boyfriend's talking sex doll. The series was directed by Tricia Brock, who also helmed an episode of Kenrick’s new series, Love Life.

Love Life follows the group of friends navigating their various relationships. Kendrick stars as Darby, a museum tour guide, in the 10-episode series that explores everything from first loves to long-term relationships.

“[Dummy] gave me a new appreciation for people who are owners of sex dolls,” Kendrick told the Sydney Morning Herald’s Sunday Life supplement.

“Because it turns out that a sex doll is really heavy lifting, so there’s a certain level of commitment.”

She continued: “I have no judgment and I seriously tip my cap to those people. But [Brock] also directed an episode of Love Life where Darby uses a sex toy and I said, ‘Tricia, do you just like to have me doing something gross every time we work together?’ ”

In the same interview, Kendrick explained why she’s “not really interested” in filming nude scenes, but doesn’t mind simulated sex scenes.

“I’ve never had a problem with simulated sex scenes – that feels like it’s about the character, whereas I only get one body, so nudity is more about me,” she said.

Love Life is available to stream on HBO’s new streaming service, HBO Max.
