Avengers: Infinity War: 'Thanos Snaps Fingers' - trailer

*WARNING: MAJOR SPOILERS FOR AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR*

It was the conclusion that sent shivers down the spines of many an MCU fan: Thanos, with all six Infinity Stones now in his grasp, obliterated half of the universe with a simple snap of his fingers.

Of course, there are those that we saw survive or die onscreen: Bucky, Falcon, Scarlet Witch, Black Panther, Groot, Star-Lord, Mantis, Drax, Spider-Man, Doctor Strange, Maria Hill, and Nick Fury are all toast.

Captain America, Black Widow, Iron Man, Bruce Banner, War Machine, Okoye, M'Baku, Rocket Raccoon, and Nebula came out our gang of survivors.

Which leaves a long list of MCU characters whose fates are still entirely unknown. A stressful situation to be sure, but Infinity War directors Joe and Anthony Russo sat down with Huffington Post to elaborate on the fates of the universe's most beloved supporting characters.

Those who definitely didn't make it: Incredible Hulk's Betty Ross (Liv Tyler), Lady Sif (Jaimie Alexander), and the Asgardian actor who was playing Loki onstage during Thor: Ragnarok (Matt Damon). The two who are guaranteed to be safe: Howard the Duck (Seth Green) and Aunt May (Marisa Tomei).

The Russos, however, then batted off a few characters' fates as "too spoilery" to mention. That list surprisingly included Jane Foster (Natalie Portman), who many had assumed we wouldn't see again, and Shuri (Letitia Wright), who we pretty much all assumed we would see again. Also Spider-Man's Ned (Jacob Batalon), for some reason.

Thor: Ragnarok's Korg and Miek (Taika Watiti) have also been burdened with unknown fates, although Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige has hinted there are plans for the audience favourites, which presumably guarantees their survival. Valkyrie's fate is also oddly unknown, although Joe Russo did reportedly confirm her survival during a Q&A.

Avengers: Infinity War is out now.
