Bret Easton Ellis, author, cinephile and Twitter contrarian, has declared the widely-panned Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice one of the year’s best films.

Nestled among micro budget horror The Invitation, Salma Hayek fantasy horror Tale of Tales and Jeremy Saulnier’s neo-Nazi thriller Green Room, it’s an intriguing choice given most critics found Snyder’s blockbuster to have very few redeeming features.

Bret is known for going against the grain on Twitter though, often extolling the drubbed and deriding the Oscar winners.

There are a few possibilities here. Perhaps it’s to be taken as a sign of how bad cinema has been so far this year, or that he sees the movie as an unwitting self-satire. Maybe he just enjoys watching Ben Affleck being repeatedly put through structurally non-integral walls.

We’ll probably find out, if he ever starts up his film podcast again.
