Cate Blanchett to star in Aaaron Sorkin's Lucille Ball biopic
The Social Network's Aaron Sorkin will write the script
Yet another navel-gazing Hollywood biopic is on the cards with Cate Blanchett set to play the late I Love Lucy actress and TV producer Lucille Ball.
The Social Network and West Wing writer Aaron Sorkin will pen the script, which will centre on the life of the famous actress who starred in TV sitcoms including the hugely popular I Love Lucy, the first of its kind to be filmed in front of a live audience.
The film will also chronicle Ball’s 20 year marriage to Desi Arnaz, with whom she had two children with before they divorced in 1960, according to The Wrap.
Ball won four Emmys and went on to become the first woman to head up her own production company, Desilu, working as a TV executive for a number of years.
Blanchett won her first Oscar for her portrayal of Katherine Hepburn in The Aviator, a biopic about director and plane fanatic Howard Hughes.
Biopics have become increasingly prevalent in Hollywood in the last few years, with films about Martin Luther King, Alan Turing and Stephen Hawking all nominated for Best Picture at the Oscars this year.
More biopics are set to follow this awards season, including films about Hollywood screenwriter Dalton Trumbo, notorious US criminal Whitey Bulger and East End gangsters Ronald and Reginald Kray.
