Portuguese football captain Cristiano Ronaldo has confirmed that a documentary film is being made about his life and career.

The not-so-imaginatively-titled Ronaldo is in post-production and marketing has begun in earnest with special Twitter and Facebook accounts set up to promote it.

Bafta-winning British director Anthony Wonke is the man in charge while Universal Pictures is producing and distributing, Variety reports. Asif Kapadia, who directed Senna and the upcoming Amy, is on board as executive producer.

Ronaldo, who also plays for Real Madrid, announced the news to fans on Twitter with a black and white photo of his son behind a camera.

The documentary will follow "a year in the life of the world's best groomed soccer player" and feature previously unseen footage and interviews with the 30-year-old, his family, friends and teammates.

Ronaldo was shot in Lisbon, Brazil, Madeira, Madrid and the US and is expected to reach cinemas later this year.
