Fifty Shades of Grey is officially the highest-grossing 18-rated film in UK box office history after just ten days of release.

Sam Taylor Johnson's movie adaptation of EL James' erotic novel beat previous record holder The Wolf of Wall Street after bringing its takings up to £25.2m with $4.6 million takings over the weekend.

The raunchy film, starring Jamie Dornan as BDSM-loving billionaire Christian Grey and Dakota Johnson as submissive student Anastasia Steele, had already achieved the biggest UK opening weekend for an 18 certificate movie after taking £12.5m over Valentine's Day weekend.

It also scored the highest opening for a film that is not part of an existing franchise or a sequel.

Fifty Shades of Grey has grossed more than $400 million worldwide to date after adding another $91.3 million globally last weekend.
