Glenn Close has revealed that a clause in her contract allowed her to keep all of her costumes from 1996 film 101 Dalmatians, as well as the sequel.

The Oscar-nominated actor spoke to comedian Pete Davidson for Variety, where she explained that the producers weren’t pleased upon discovering her demand for playing Cruella de Vil.

“I got in my contract that I got to keep all my costumes that I wore in the movie,” she said.

“Then when they found out how expensive they were, they were unhappy that it was in my contract. They wanted to make another copy, another set, for me. I said no.”

Her revelation had been prompted by Davidson telling her that, growing up, he had loved the live-action Disney film and its 2000 follow-up, in which Close played the villain.

Close said that she asked the writers to use some of the original dialogue from the 1961 animated film, to make Cruella sound as evil as possible.

“She said, 'Chloroform them! Drown them!' It's really horrible stuff,” she explained. “I realised the meaner she was, the better she was.”

Cruella will next be played by Emma Stone in forthcoming film Cruella, scheduled for release later this year.
