Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them will form part of a trilogy of movies, J.K. Rowling has confirmed on Twitter.

The news came in response to the author's attempts to belay rumours her stageplay based in the Potter universe, Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, would be receiving a cinematic adaptation.

A notion which may not remain watertight; being that it seems fairly unlikely Rowling won't ever be tempted to bring her sold-out theatrical show to screen in some form. There's only so long one can really resist studios hammering down the door in desperation for new Potter material.

Rowling's tweet isn't actually the first confirmation of a trio of films we've received; Warner Brothers CEO Kevin Tsujihara previously described plans for "at least a trilogy" to the LA Times.

Plus, most fans likely just assumed this to be the case; in fact, it would probably feel far more newsworthy if Rowling had revealed the studio's intentions to make only one film adapted from her 128-page fictional textbook and be satisfied with that.

The film will spin out the adventures of Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them's adventurous author, Newt Scamander (Eddie Redmayne), as he journies to New York to attend its magical convention; only to find the numerous creatures contained with his briefcase set loose amongst the streets of its metropolis.

The film also stars Katherine Waterston, Alison Sudol, Dan Fogler, Samantha Morton, Ezra Miller, and Colin Farrell.

Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them is set to hit UK cinemas 18 November.
