The new film from director Ridley Scott has been pulled from a festival following mounting allegations of sexual misconduct against its lead actor, Kevin Spacey.

Sony's TriStar has dropped All the Money in the World from the schedule of AFI Fest amid fear co-stars Mark Wahlberg and Michelle Williams would have been inundated with questions regarding the accusations against Spacey.

All the Money in the World is a superb film and more than worthy of its place of honour in the AFI Fest,“ TriStar said in a statement. |But given the current allegations surrounding one of its actors and out of respect for those impacted, it would be inappropriate to celebrate at a gala at this difficult time. Accordingly, the film will be withdrawn.”

TriStar confirmed plans to release the film in December were still in place, stating “a film is not the work of one person.”

“There are over 800 other actors, writers, artists, craftspeople and crew who worked tirelessly and ethically on this film, some for years, including one of cinema’s master directors. It would be a gross injustice to punish all of them for the wrongdoings of one supporting actor in the film. Accordingly, the film will open wide as planned on December 22.”

AFI announced its “support” of Sony's decision “in order to ensure the thousands of people who worked together on this film are honoured at a proper time and in a proper light.”

All the Money in the World tells the story of 16-year-old John Paul Getty III's kidnapping with an unrecognisable Spacey playing his billionaire grandfather J. Paul Getty.

Spacey is currently "seeking evaluation and treatment" in light of the mounting allegations of sexual misconduct to have emerged in the past few weeks. The claims made by several men have seen both Netflix and Spacey's talent agency cut all ties with the actor throwing the future of TV series House of Cards - which was set to return for a final season in 2018 - into question

The film Gore, in which Spacey plays author Gore Vidal, has also been ditched by the streaming service.

AFI Fest runs from 9-16 November.
