James Mangold has revealed that the final moments of Logan can be tracked right back to previous solo outing The Wolverine.

Warning: this post contains extreme spoilers for both The Wolverine and Logan.

The 2013 film featured a prophecy by character Yukio (Rila Fukushima) who has the power of seeing how people will die.

“It’s not like I get a complete picture, more like looking through a keyhole,” she tells Logan (Hugh Jackman). “But I’m always right. All I can see is one part of a person’s life, their death. And I saw yours.”

She tells him ominously: “I see you on your back, there’s blood everywhere. You’re holding your own heart in your hand. It’s not beating.”

Later on in the film, Logan is shown performing surgery on himself to remove a parasite from his own heart with X-Men fans assuming this to be what Yukio was referring to.

It turns out they were wrong.

Flashforward to Logan - Jackman's final Wolverine outing that was released earlier this month to record-breaking box office figures across the globe.

The end of the film sees Logan die, blood everywhere, holding hands with his daughter, X-23 (Dafne Keen).

Some Twitter users asked Mangold if this could be the prophecy Yukio was referring to and the filmmaker confirmed the suggestion.

While Logan's ending has been deemed a great way to finish the character's story, Jackman has revealed the film's climax was almost changed due to the actor's love of the Western genre.
