Boy, is Garrett Hedlund in trouble.

A trailer for the Oscar Isaac-starring thriller Mojave has debuted online.

The Departed's screenwriter William Monahan here directs Garrett Hedlund as a suicidal artist hoping to make a break for the desert in order to find relief; only to encounter his counterpart, and destined nemesis, in a homicidal stalker (Isaac). What follows is a crazed bid for control of the situation and survival in the face of the most determined antagonist of his life.

Isaac is, of course, currently on the brink of megastardom with his turn as X-wing pilot Poe Dameron in Star War: The Force Awakens; though that's bound to be neatly reinforced when he stars as the titular, purple-faced villain of the upcoming X-Men: Apocalypse. However, it does feel like it's been a while since Isaac's really played an out-and-out villain of this quality, and the actor definitely looks like he's having a blast going all-out on the theatrical psychotics here.

What's odd about this trailer, however, is the complete absence of Mark Wahlberg in his supporting role as Norman; there's presumably a good reason for it, so he may play a part in some final act twist. Because, seriously, who's not going to shout the fact Marky Mark's in their movie from the rooftops of Hollywood? The film also features French star Louise Bourgoin and Walton Goggins, next seen in Quentin Tarantino's The Hateful Eight.

Mojave is currently available on VOD, with a limited US theatrical release on 22 January. There's no word on any plans for a UK release.
