Christopher Nolan's Interstellar has released a new trailer, seeing Matthew McConaughey's protagonist Cooper saying an emotional goodbye to his family as he heads on a perilous mission to space.

The trailer got its debut at Comic-Con (at which McConaughey made a surprise appearance), and was released by Paramount Pictures yesterday in celebration of Nolan's birthday.

Every bit as epic as The Dark Knight and Inception (and arguably verging on overblown), it sees Cooper say goodbye to his young family as he suits up for space to help Anne Hathaway's character "save the world".

Michael Caine also features in the trailer, among an all-star cast that also includes Jessica Chastain, Casey Affleck, Wes Bentle and Matt Damon.

McConaughey's run of high quality films and TV series shows no signs of slowing down, with the Oscar winner also set to star in Gus Van Sant's next movie, Sea of Trees.
