Oscars 2016: Chris Rock interviewed Compton cinemagoers who had no idea what all these white movies were

'Where are you getting these movies from?'

Diversity played a big part in last night’s Oscars, with host Chris Rock - along with many of the presenters - bringing up the #OscarsSoWhite controversy on numerous occasions.

However, before the ceremony, the comedian ventured to Compton to ask the locals whether they had heard of any of the films nominated for Best Picture.

“Bridge of Spies?” asks Rock, to which the woman replies “Where are you getting these movies from? You’re making up some, you’re messing with me right?” Watch below.

When asked if they had heard of the international hit Straight Outta Compton - a film widely snubbed by the Academy - those answering questions unanimously said yes.

In his opening monologue at the Oscars, Rock took on the diversity controversy head on: “Welcome to the Academy Awards, otherwise known as the white people's choice awards! You know, if they nominated hosts, I wouldn't get this job! You would be watching Neil Patrick Harris right now.”

Sacha Baron Cohen always addressed the controversy when presenting an award, dressing as Ali G specially for the occasion.
