Selma Blair has shutdown rumours that Cameron Diaz is retiring from acting.

On Monday she tweeted, "Cameron Diaz is NOT retiring from ANYTHING."

Her clarification was in reference to a recent interview she did with Metro News UK where she said that her co-star from The Sweetest Thing had "retired from acting."

As a result, rumours began circulating on Sunday night that Cameron Diaz was supposedly retiring from acting.

"I had lunch with Cameron the other day,” she told the publication with regards to The Sweetest Thing. "We were reminiscing about the film. I would have liked to do a sequel but Cameron’s retired from acting. She’s like ‘I’m done.'"

Adding fuel to the fire Blair added, "I mean, she doesn’t need to make any more films. She has a pretty great life, I don’t know what it would take to bring her back. She’s happy."

Now the 45-year-old actress says she was "making a joke in an interview."

Blair wrote, "I am NOW retiring from being Cameron Diaz’s spokesperson."

Diaz hasn't appeared in any films since 2014's Annie remake.

One year later she married Good Charlotte member Benji Madden.

During the past few years, Diaz has put her focus on wellness, releasing The Body Book in 2013 and The Longevity Book three years later.

A representative for Diaz has not responded to The Independent's request for comment.
