Sir Ian McKellen has been Gandalf for almost 16 years, having first starred as the Grey wizard in 2001’s The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring.

Considering he once said "I've had it with Gandalf," many though McKellen’s last turn as Gandalf was in The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug. The doubters, however, have been proven wrong.

The actor will once again become the wise wizard for Shakespeare, Tolkien, Others & You, a one man theatre production directed by Park Theatre’s Artistic Director Jez Bond.

Over nine performances, McKellen will once again embody some of literary’s greatest character, including Gandalf and Macbeth, while the audience will be able to ask questions and participate.

In a statement, McKellen explained how the performances would raise money to support Park Theatre - itself a registered charity. Bond added: “He has donated his time to help raise vital funds by performing this show – and I am honoured to be working with him to bring it to the stage.”

While tickets start at £85, a select number of £10 tickets will be available on the day of the performance. Shakespeare, Tolkien, Others & You will be running at Park Theatre 3 - 9 July.

Meanwhile, McKellen recently turned down £1 million to officiate a wedding dressed as Gandalf.
