Despite negative reviews, Suicide Squad has grossed huge amounts, topping the box office both here and in the US.

Still, the critics’ response matters to a fair few people, mainly the cast, some of which have spoken about how the film being ‘made for the fans’ (one of who is attempting to sue the studio).

According to Ezra Miller, who plays The Flash, the critical bashing has only served to motivate the cast of Justice League - an upcoming DC film set in the same cinematic universe.

"You needn’t look any further than the Suicide Squad director [David Ayer] and cast response to the negative reviews to feel how negative critiques motivate us,” he told MTV.

“Ultimately, we can’t base anything on [the critical response]. As artists, we aim to please absolutely everybody with our work, but we also know that we have to keep expressing ourselves as best as we can express ourselves.”

He added: “It’s like that T.I. song, ‘Motivation.’”

Meanwhile, Jared Leto has spoken about the Joker’s minimal screen-time in Suicide Squad, saying there’s enough unused footage to make an entire film based on the character.

Suicide Squad is currently in cinemas.
