The First Purge- trailer

The first trailer for a horror prequel to The Purge has been released.

The fourth film in the franchise has been billed as an origin story charting the very first annual Purge, a sociological idea enacted by the new Founding Fathers of America permitting people to commit murder for just one night in a bit to drive the country's crime rate down.

Originally titled The Purge: The Island, the film will focus on one family stranded on New York's Staten Island in the midst of protests against the event which will see the murder of scores of innocent people.

Gerard McMurray has directed the film from a screenplay written by James Demonaco, the director of the first three films which come from producing maestro Jason Blum.

The film stars Lex Scott Davis, Y’Lan Noel, Joivan Wade, and Marisa Tomei.

The original film star Ethan Hawke and Lena Headey in the lead roles and had a global box office haul of $89m from a budget of $3m. Its sequels - The Purge: Anarchy and Election Year - grossed $108m and $118m.
