Trainspotting 2: Original cast confirmed to be returning for Danny Boyle's sequel

TriStar Pictures have attained worldwide rights to the film

Earlier this year, director Danny Boyle said that the sequel to his 90’s classic Trainspotting was in the works yet spoke of how the original actors were fearful of returning.

It seems those fears have been put to rest, as the principle cast - including Ewan McGregor, Jonny Lee Miller, Ewen Bremner, and Robert Carlyle – have all been confirmed to return to the series.

The Hollywood Reporter revealed the news in a report that also detailed how Tri-Star studio, part of Sony Pictures, had secured the release of the upcoming film.

Boyle had intended to start filming in 2016, which is looking much more likely now a film studio is behind them. In an interview with the BBC, the Slumdog Millionaire director revealed how he was already feeling pressure to produce something spectacular.

"Obviously it's worrying because people will kill us if we made a bad job of it," he said at the London premiere of his latest film, Steve Jobs.

"I will get absolutely crucified. But you have to thrive on that potential danger within it and if it feeds into it, you might get a decent film out of it, you know.”

Trainspotting 2 is reportedly set for a 2016 release date.
