After several years in production, Where the Wild Things Are, is poised to take the box office, for the weekend starting October 16.

The more mainstream runner up is the thriller, Law Abiding Citizen. With high-interest potential with international appeal, New York, I Love You, is a series of interconnected films. Other releases this weekend include a horror movie (The Stepfather) and 1970s throwback blaxploitation flick (Black Dynomite).

Where the Wild Things Are
A new version of the classic children's book by Maurice Sendak, about the adventures of a young boy who escapes home to enter a strange and mysterious world. Directed by Spike Jonze (Being John Malkovich, Adaptation) it stars Mark Ruffalo and Catherine Keener, with voices by James Gandolfini, Chris Cooper, and Forest Whitaker. Several years in the making, the anticipated film is imaginative and could become a classic.

Law Abiding Citizen
Jamie Foxx (Ray, The Soloist) and Gerard Butler (Nim's Island, RocknRolla) star in this action thriller following an innocent man who loses his family and becomes the suspect. In prison, he learns how to become a criminal to wield justice and revenge.

New York, I Love You
The unofficial follow-up to Paris, je t'aime, this romantic drama consists of a series of "Cities of Love" films with a dozen directors weaving several love stories together. It's a love affair with New York City. The directors include Mira Nair (Monsoon Wedding, Vanity Fair), Brett Ratner (Rush Hour, X-Men: the Last Stand), Japan's Shunji Iwai, China's Wen Jiang, Germany's Fatih Akin, and actress Natalie Portman. Scarlett Johansson also wrote one segment. The all-star cast includes Shia LaBeouf, Kevin Bacon, Orlando Bloom, Ethan Hawke, Blake Lively, Andy Garcia, Julie Christie, and Chistina Ricci.
