Pablo (Juan Minujin), a young HIV-positive poet, lives with a fractious aunt and keeps a diary of his failing health and faltering progress through the world of S&M leather clubs. A year without love it may be, but not without sex. The real surprise is that such a homocentric film should be directed by a woman, though her sense of detachment remains unleavened by humour or even much drama. A minor intrigue goes nowhere, and all we are left to ponder is a mood of sexual and social frustration.
