Björk: Biophilia Live, film review: Film-makers bring sense of mystery to Alexandra Palace gig

Icelandic diva Björk performing 'Biophilia'

Biophilia Live, recorded at Alexandra Palace last September, has a visual inventiveness that most concert films lack. It begins in solemn fashion, with David Attenborough explaining the meaning of "biophilia" – the love for nature in all her manifestations.

Then, it's on to the Icelandic diva Björk in a huge red wig and Teletubby-like body armour, performing all the songs from her Biophilia album.

There are plenty of eye-popping lighting effects, as well as beautiful imagery of cells and of the cosmos projected in the background.

The film-makers Peter Strickland and Nick Fenton manage to bring a sense of mystery and wonder to what was clearly more than just another gig.
