Pi’s father, a zoo keeper, tries to uproot his family and animals from India to Canada, but their vessel encounters a sea-storm that accounts for the crew, bar Pi, a Bengal tiger and three doomed animals. The resourceful Pi and his furry companion quarrel on the shark-infested Pacific waters, eventually washing up on an island of meerkats. The tale’s “twist” has considerable bite.
