Don't be deceived by the saccharine title. Susanne Bier has crafted a lovely, exquisitely judged Danish romance. Pierce Brosnan plays Philip, the CEO of a Danish fruit company whose son is getting married in Sorrento. On the way to the airport he crashes into Ida (Trine Dryholm), the mother of the bride and the two lock horns. Ida is a recently cuckolded wife recovering from cancer, but she oozes wit and strength; Philip is an angry widower. On paper, this reeks of cheese, but it works – and Brosnan delivers probably his finest performance.
